The Story and the Song

This Sunday, we begin a new sermon series that will last a whole year. We are calling it "The Story of God." In this series, we will be looking at Scripture as one continuous story, from Genesis to Revelation; it will be like a flyover of the whole Bible. We are doing this for one major reason: if we don't see the Bible as a story with only one message, we end up just trying to keep rules. But if we read the Bible like a story, we find that it is a love letter. It is the story of the lengths to which God will go to rescue his people and his broken world.
While there are many "heroes" in the Bible, when we read it like a story, it becomes clear that there is only one hero, and the whole Bible is about what he did.  As Sally Lloyd-Jones says in the Jesus Storybook Bible, "Every story in the Bible whispers his name. He is the missing piece in the puzzle--the piece that makes all the other pieces (of the Bible) fit together and suddenly, you can see the beautiful picture."
This week's message is a preamble. How do we know this story? Who tells this story? See, every great story argues for a story teller. So we will look at the way God has chosen to tell us his story, the story of redemption. It is almost like a fairy tale, but the amazing thing about this fairy tale is that it's all true! And even more amazing, you can be a part of this grand story as well!
Blessings,
Jim
