Living out God’s Friendship in the World

Just about every day of the week one of the first things I do is go by the church property and talk to Charlie, the superintendent who is overseeing the construction of our church building. Today, when I went by there it was a boys dream - every piece of big equipment you can imagine was there. Charlie then showed me a backhoe Bob brought over there to use. I informed Charlie that if he needed cheap labor he should give me a buzz. It is all very exciting.
While this new building is always in my mind, I have to keep talking to myself about purpose. This Sunday we are talking about the place, and priority, the larger world around us plays in the life of a believer. Jesus' last words and his prayer for his disciples was about how he was leaving them in the world to be a "convincing witness" to the truth of the gospel.
That is, of course, why we build - to be a "convincing witness" that Jesus came to heal all our brokenness, the brokenness of our friends and the brokenness of our town. This Sunday that is what we are talking about, how we live out God's friendship with us in the world around us. Hope to see you Sunday.
Blessings,
Jim
P.S.  Men, dress warm and bring a large piece of meat to my house on Monday night for Meat-ssentials. The weather promises to be cold, the grill will be hot, patio heaters and fire pits cranking, the butter baste delicious, and I will have a warm spot for those who are cold natured.
