Faith; Trusting God
As I am pondering what we will be studying the next six months, it occurred to me that we couldn't be finished with "The Fruit of the Cross" and not have looked at "faith." The bible says that without faith you can't please God. It says, anything you do that is not of faith is sin. So, faith is a big deal. We actually can't know God apart from faith. On Sunday we are going to talk about it for many reasons, but one reason is that Christians are continually cast in the pejorative because Christianity is a "faith." The myth spread around in popular culture is that Christianity is for people who are afraid of the facts. In other words, thinking people couldn't possibly believe the fairy tales Christianity peddles. I think if I hear that rot and nonsense one more time I will just vomit. Here are the facts. All knowledge begins in faith. The preacher and the scientist both make faith assumptions to make sense of the world and to even engage the world. Everyone you meet in Collierville and Memphis has built their life on faith! So Sunday we will talk about it, and how faith and reason are both necessary to engage reality.BlessingsJimPS Men!!!! I have called an audible for Meatssentials on Monday night. Pork prices have plummeted and ribs are at a great price, so I will crank up the grill and burn some bones. Bring $10.00 and your favorite beverage, the rest will be provided (unless you to bring dessert). We will also talk about what it means for the men of St. Patrick to do life together.
