Celebration and Worship
Have you ever tried to celebrate alone? Boy, that feels real good, doesn't it? I mean, the reason we celebrate is that our affections are drawn out in praise and joy over something we deeply love. And when something happens that moves us deeply, the first thing we want to do is get with other people who love the same thing and have them join in the praise. Almost every night when the Grizzlies or Tigers are playing, I will start getting texts or calls from John or a host of other friends who have a passion, at least equal to or greater than mine, asking me if I am watching! Usually, they are watching the game at home alone, and somehow it is not enough; we have to have others join in choruses of praise and joy. This is why we have clubs for everything. Somehow, being together with other people with the same passion as ours completes the joy.Worship is like that. It is a celebration of what Jesus has done for us. It is essential to our formation in Christ that we celebrate together. That is why it is a core value at St. Patrick. It is so important, in fact, that Jesus said, it is the only thing the Father seeks. This Sunday, we will look at a picture of Christians celebrating the gospel together--it is electric, and it is still possible for us!
